Rio architects’ design has dramatically reimagined the existing college building into a striking new Sixth Form Academy Hub. The three-storey refurbishment involved a contemporary glazed extension and comprehensive re-clad. Its interior has been transformed into an exciting open-plan multi-use environment where students and staff can work and socialise together.

Innovation in Delivering a Sustainable Education Facility 2019: The Active Office (SPECIFIC Innovation and knowledge centre, Swansea University)


The office is at the forefront of smart buildings and proves the viability of the ‘Active Buildings’ concept. Through collaboration with international partners (e.g.Tata Steel, Cisco), it has generated considerable interest within the industry and a £36m centre has since been set up to aid large-scale adoption throughout the UK.

Innovation in Delivering Value 2019: Pentrehafod Comprehensive School


Pentrehafod Comprehensive School, Swansea was the £15M, redevelopment of a city centre school in a live setting of 1,000 pupils. The project was delivered in multiple phases from November 16 to October 18, and has received recent acclaim for its contribution to sustainable development,
and methods of working in live and challenging environments.
