Synopsis

Integration of Welsh Government Energy Requirements through design
There is a drive by Welsh Government for more energy efficient buildings and this is reflected in their schools building programmes. These aspirations for energy efficient buildings have been incorporated into the MIM programme where more challenging energy requirements and increased monitoring of performance have been adopted. These improvements raise questions about the response of designers and developers to these requirements. In addition, there are risks that thermal comfort can be compromised if energy efficiency is not implemented corrected and that innovation will be curtailed. What do these aspirations mean for building users and those who develop new education buildings?

The workshop will follow up the themes of the conference session, Welsh Government focus on Sustainability Targets and achieving them and the aim of this workshop is to get a broader understanding of responses to increased energy efficiency standards like those identified for the MIM programme and understand the scope of responses to these proposals.

Four groups are proposed based around themes arising from energy requirements.
