Gavin Traylor

President of RSAW and Lecturer at the Swansea School of Architecture

Biography

Gavin is a chartered architect with over 20 years’ experience within the construction industry and is the current RSAW President for a two-year term.

He is currently a Lecturer in Architecture & Construction at UWTSD within the School of Architecture, Construction and Environment in Swansea, and is the Academic Lead for Project Integration & Industry Engagement. He is engaged in several Welsh Government funded research projects that include Optimizer Retrofit Pathfinder, Net Zero Hub and Timber Construction Centre of Excellence. As a chartered architect with considerable experience in practice and running a business, Gavin also practices in a partnership in Cardiff at Patrwm Architects LLP.

Prior to joining UWTSD is April 2019, Gavin adopted the role as Projects Design & Development’s Operational Manager (Acting) within Cardiff Council and led the multi-discipline team of consultants that provided the ‘in house’ design and construction management services for the authority. In his time at Cardiff Council Gavin worked on variety of projects across the Council’s portfolio. He managed design teams on projects of a variety of scales and complexities; in sectors that include education, leisure, commercial, residential and conservation.

Gavin has been an RSAW Council member for a number of years and is a Former Chair of Design Circle (RSAW South). Gavin is also former Chair of CLAW (The Consortium of Local Authorities Wales) Design Group, a former CLAW Steering Group member and was previously a representative of the CLAW Board of Nominated Officers.  Gavin has previously represented Cardiff Council as client representative to the SEWSCAP board, a construction framework for public sector procurement in South East Wales.
